Tubas for all!
Raising funds to purchase a second full-size tuba in Alan Sykes name which will be given to a young WSB player.
As part of their efforts to honour the late Alan Sykes, Wantage Silver Band (WSB) aims to continue raising funds to purchase a second full-size tuba, which will be engraved with Alan's name and given to a young WSB player.
At the Alan Sykes Memorial Concert on Sunday, June 9th, over £1000 was raised, allowing the band to purchase one of the two tubas they hope to buy. The generosity of the community was evident during this event, highlighting the strong support for WSB. Simon Handley reminisced about how Alan found an old tuba for him as a beginner, emphasising Alan's dedication to helping others. The Sykes Hall is now adorned with tuba and musical bunting featuring dedication messages to Alan, and WSB invites digital messages to be added alongside donations.
Contributions can be made with the option to include gift aid, and messages will be copied onto bunting and displayed in The Sykes Hall. Alan's commitment to providing opportunities for younger band members is the driving force behind this initiative, and WSB hopes many will support this cause to purchase a second tuba.
