In the rural district of Kanungu, Uganda, where many families subsist on less than £2 per day, access to quality education can be a formidable challenge. Government schools often grapple with inadequate resources and frequent teacher absenteeism, leading to high dropout rates as children are pulled back into farming.

For over two decades, Kirima Limited has been a beacon of hope in this community, offering comprehensive educational opportunities from nursery through to college. Their commitment has not only provided individual students with brighter futures but has also fostered community-wide transformation.

A Continuum of Quality Education

Kirima Limited's educational initiatives encompass several key institutions:

  • Kirima Primary School: Renowned for its high-quality education, the school consistently achieves top results in the region, laying a strong foundation for young learners.
  • Great Lakes High School: Addressing the local scarcity of science education, the high school emphasises STEM subjects, equipping students with critical skills for modern careers.
  • New College (Opened in 2024): Bridging the gap between secondary education and employment, the college offers vocational training and professional courses, enhancing students' employability.

Community-Centric Approach

Kirima Limited's success stems from its deep-rooted commitment to the community. By employing dedicated teachers who prioritise student development and maintaining strong relationships with parents, the organisation ensures that education remains a valued and integral part of children's lives. This holistic approach not only benefits the students but also uplifts the entire community by fostering a culture that values learning and personal growth.

Sustainable Support and Future Aspirations

The organisation's funding model relies heavily on individual donors, with a unique assurance that 100% of contributions directly support the schools in Uganda, free from deductions for UK administrative costs. This transparency has cultivated trust and encouraged ongoing support from a global donor base.

In 2024, a group of trustees and supporters embarked on the "800 Miles to Educate 800 Children" campaign, collectively walking 800 miles to raise funds and awareness. Their efforts culminated in an impressive £52,440, demonstrating the power of community and shared purpose.
